RML Update

by Joanne Jahr, MLS
Network Programs Coordinator
NN/LM Middle Atlantic Region
jjahr@nyam.org

The New York Academy of Medicine was once again awarded the contract to be the Regional Medical Library for the Middle Atlantic Region for the next five years. It was, therefore, with great pleasure and excitement that I volunteered to write a column for the Chapter newsletter. Since some Chapter members do not subscribe to some of the RML and NLM-related discussion lists, I hope to use this column to update you on the RML and NLM.

Have you looked at the RML home page recently? It has a new, "transparent" URL that's easy to remember, but you might like to bookmark it anyway:

http://nnlm.gov/mar

The page contains a lot of information valuable to all health sciences librarians, including

  • links to the National Training Center and Clearinghouse (formerly the National Online Training Center);
  • PubMed;
  • the NLM Gateway and LOCATORplus;
  • DOCLINE "survival links";
  • consumer health resources including MEDLINEplus;
  • the RML's newsletter, the Middle Atlantic Perspective, which is only available online;
  • and a directory of the RML staff.
We are here to serve you, to assist you, and to answer any questions you might have, both about your own regional programs and NLM in general. If you want us to come to your institution to teach classes or do training sessions on how to use any of the NLM databases or resources, we would be delighted to do so. Please call or e-mail:
Phone(Direct):1-212-822-7396

(Toll Free):1-800-338-7657
E-Mail:jjahr@nyam.org

We encourage you to sign on to the MARL listserv for the most timely and authoritative news from NLM and the RML, including information about specific funding opportunities, special seminars and symposiums, and other programs and services affecting your library. Information on how to subscribe can be found on our homepage:

http://nnlm.gov/mar/listserv.html

On behalf of the entire RML staff, I look forward to seeing you at the joint NY-NJ/NAHSL conference in New Haven this October.
