Position summary:  Working within the Library organization and reporting
to the Associate Dean for Information Resources and Systems,  this
position provides leadership for the Blackboard CE Learning Management
System (LMS) and all the technologies and training necessary to support
its use in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School. This person
works with the faculty and school administration to enable the use of a
variety of technologies to enhance the onsite education process and to
support some distance education. As the LMS will need to be replaced
next year, this person will play a pivotal role in choosing and
implementing a new LMS.

Position responsibilities: 

*                    Trains and supports personnel in use of Learning
Management System (LMS) software, multi-media and web-based programs.

*                    Maintains and supports LMS and works with the IT
group to support its servers. 

*                    Provides pedagogical and instructional design
consultations to faculty for teaching courses.

*                    Assists faculty in the design and development of
courses using instructional multimedia and education applications. 

*                    Works with faculty and administrators to identify
larger projects that require higher level programming.

*                    Supervises 2 programmers and manage their projects.

*                    Works with the curriculum committees of the school
to align priorities and contribute to the development of courses. 

*                    Manages the library classrooms and makes available
current and useful software. 

*                    Works closely with Academic computing to ensure the
smooth functioning of the network, dedicated computers and wireless
access in the classrooms and library. 

*                    Assists with institution's website. 

*                    Assists in oversight of classrooms. 

*                    Provides technological training as necessary. 

*                    Researches, monitors, and enforces adherence to
intellectual property rights. 

*                    Assists in creating and conducting, evaluations of
courses and services. 

*                    Assist in providing face-to-face,, phone, and
online support for students. 

*                    Proactively seeks new methods for assuring quality
of courses, implementing new technologies, and assuring faculty and
student success. 

*                    Works to assure LMS orientation for students is
excellent. 

 

Minimum Position Requirements: 

*                    Minimum of Master's degree in Library Science,
Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science or
related discipline with experience in developing content using a
learning management system such as Blackboard/WebCT.  Doctoral degree
preferred.

*                    Experience working with faculty in using technology
to teach.

*                    Experience managing course management system such
as Blackboard/WebCT. 

*                    Experience with web authoring tools such as
Macromedia Dreamweaver or equivalent HTML authoring programs. 

*                    Competency in Microsoft Windows suite of
applications. 

*                    Experience updating/managing web pages or websites.


*                    Teaching experience highly desirable.

*                    Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

*                    Must be creative and able to work in a team
environment which includes library, MD and PhD faculty, technology, and
student members.

*                    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

*                    Ability to engage and motivate others toward common
goals. 

*                    Ability to train employees, to include organizing,
prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.  

*                    Ability to adapt to new technologies and to learn
new systems. 

*                    Ability to create and maintain web pages using HTML
authoring tools. 

*                    Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.  

*                    Ability to work independently and coordinate
multiple, simultaneous projects and tasks. 

*                    Ability to stay abreast of current and developing
trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies) in distance
education.
