To celebrate MLA's Centennial Year, 1998, the NY-NJ Chapter of MLA
sponsored a program of recognition and acknowledgement of librarians and
friends who have shaped and influenced today's medical librarians and
Chapter members. Chapter members sponsored letters to be sent to someone
who was a "giant" in their professional lives. The letter contained a
quote from Bernard of Chartres:
On the Shoulders of Giants
We are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants
so that we can see more than they,
and things at a greater distance
not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part,
or any physical distinction
but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.
We thank the giants listed below for their support and encouragement. We
truly do see more because we stand on their shoulders.
